The step cousins strike again. A relationship birthed in Olympia, Washington with one guy from Seattle, enrolled at The Evergreen State College and the other, hailing from the hometown of Michael Jackson, his immortal family and famous for blue collar workers was sparked many moons ago in The O-Town and what has culminated are the things that dreams are made of… XP and Macklemore, will once again merge in celebration of XP’s third solo album, Chasing Grace. They will celebrate with a sold out crowd of fans on Friday night at Olympia’s nightclub, The Society.
XP and Macklemore, known as the step cousins, are the best of friends, creative collaborators and most recently world travelers who have carried the baton of Pacific Northwest Hip-Hop to all corners of the globe. So, a homecoming to celebrate the release of XP’s most recent album, Chasing Grace, is also a welcome back. ‘Olympia is my second home’, Macklemore mentioned recently during a trip to Oly. The two sold out another show (in 20 minutes) at the 1,000 seat historic Capital Theater in Downtown Olympia in August, where Macklemore was presented the Key to Olympia by Mayor Sheryl Selby – as part of Macklemore’s Northwest ‘Camping’ themed tour.
Before his recent reunion with Macklemore, XP was gaining momentum anyway with radio success credited by songs like “Coco Jones”, “60/40” and most recently, “Evolve Away”. Lately, the charismatic rapper/singer is garnering another stream of income and success – as a published writer. Trifecta, it is called.
Now, the two will get it poppin’ again with an intimate crowd of a few hundred to celebrate the singer-songwriter-MC’s newest release – no reviews on it yet as it is barely days old on the market, he says, “Chasing Grace is my greatest offering yet and – it has something for everybody.” Considering the warm reception of his Soul Tree and William The 8th, albums listeners should have something to look forward to. XP’s album is the focal poiint, but with a sold out show, local opener and favorite, Zikki Carr and Dave B opening and his homeboy and platinum-selling, presidentially requested, socially conscious, party-rockin’ homeboy hosting – the show should be lit too.
