Seattle, WA – The 2nd Annual Africatown-Central District Black Music Summit 2016 will be held on April 2, 10am-6pm at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute bringing together music stakeholders, including musicians, artists, promoters, venues, media, educators and community organizers.
Sir Mix-A-Lot, a native of the Central District, Seattle Hip Hop icon and long time tech enthusiast, teamed up with local software developers to create new uses for Amazon’s Alexa Voice Service and music studio equipment. They’ll share their new “Internet of Things” application at the event, and discuss where the future of music, artificial intelligence, and technology is headed.
The purpose of this summit is to increase awareness of opportunities and strengthen networks for action. Our goal is to address the current state and future of Black Music in Seattle and the Central District, and explore the opportunities and challenges in context of the Seattle’s City of Music Initiative (www.cityofmusic.com) to make Seattle a global music mecca by 2020.
