12th Annual Virgo Party & Seaspot Magazine Party takes over the Seahawks Stadium
By : Chukundi Salisbury
"WHOA", those where the words that came to mind as DJ Soul One was driving home from the 12th annual Virgo Party and Seaspot Magazine Party last Friday. "What a night for the Seattle Scene, that was really big!". On Friday, September 19th, 2003 the annual Virgo party was held at the Seahawks Stadium's Club Restaurant and Lounge. The event featured the world famous DJ Kid Capri in only his second Appearance in Seattle. The party, Seattle's Longest Running Urban Event, has been held at some of Seattle's best venues, including the Experience Music Project and the Historic Union Station, and this year was right inline with those. With the field and stadium as a backdrop guests partied until 3:00AM without incident. "With Seating on the club level of the stadium at an average of $200 per seat, it is unlikely that many of the people here will get this view of the field again", said Jeff Staton, one of the Party Founders. Wither the guests of the event return anytime soon, it was clear that everyone had a wonderful time. Seattle's Celebs and Elite were on hand to enjoy the event including Seahawks Stars Shawn Springs and Koren Robinson. "Great Party, I am glad I came", said Ray Allen of the Seattle Sonics, whose was in attendance with fellow Sonics including Rashard Lewis.
The event has been a sell out for years, however this event outpaced others with only 101 tickets left in the box office when it opened at 8PM. All the tickets were gone by 11:05PM. Several sharply dressed would-be party goers (running on C.P. Time), were disappointed upon arrival to the venue. "I can't understand why someone would get their outfit, hair done, rent a limo, and then not buy a ticket in advance", said The Ghetto Prez, one of the party organizers, "it just seems silly" Those who were lucky enough to be inside the party, were treated to a rare site in Seattle. The event featured a reggae room with DJ Soul One of the DVS Crew (Thursday's at the Baltic Room), the VIP Lounge with DJ's Supreme (Conception Records, Des Amis Saturday Nights) and DJ Lovesick Larry (Cafe Arizona, The Un-Mixed Edition Mix CD's), and finally the Main Room with DJ RocPhella and DJ Kid Capri.
"I was surprised Seattle had this many Black People and So many FINE women!!" exclaimed Kid Capri, "You have to get me back out here". The town showed Kid Capri the VIP treatment with Eric Powers (via DJ Supa Sam) of KUBE 93.3 inviting Kid down to take over his Friday show. Kid's partner in partying, DJ Technician, warmed up the crowd on Friday and also represented on the radio. On a side note, contrary to popular belief, Seattle has many Shoes that cannot be found in NYC, as indicated by Kid at Sneaker City in downtown Seattle.
While the VIP was open to mostly anyone, it was mainly reserved for the event sponsors. "Seaspot clearly has it's finger on the pulse of the Seattle Urban Community", said Omari Salisbury of Definition Marketing. "It is clear to everyone here, those not here, and most importantly to the sponsors, partners, and supporters that they can deliver. It is also clear that companies that take advantage of these opportunities will have a substantial return on their investment."

Overall the event was a huge success for everyone and was a historic night for Seattle's Young Urban Community. "It was fun and safe", said Jameel Shabazz of Imani Photography. "1200 people came out to a Hip Hop Party in Seattle and there was no violence, no problems, no arrests, or beef of any kind. Who say's we cant get along?"
